Cancer Council Morning Tea

May 2013

STARS annual Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea was held at Waverley House on May 16. Forty five guests crowded into the Olive Reader Room for a morning tea of muffins and coffee cockles. There were familiar faces and some new faces enjoying companionship and supporting a worthy cause, the fund-raising for research into finding a cure for cancer.

We welcomed Kathy from the office of Leon Bignell, and her mother, to this event.

The ‘Little Sisters of Abundance’ choir entertained the guests with a bracket of delightful songs and Nancy read one of her poems about ‘Fishing Fashions’ .

Sponsors contributed prizes for the raffle; a cumquat tree from Perry Nurseries, A Party Platter from Red Poppies, a voucher for coffee and cake for two from The Three Monkeys and a voucher for a massage from Liz Elder.

Together with a contribution of $90.00 from Nancy’s fishing club, the morning tea raised a total of $717.00 which will be forwarded to the Cancer Council. Altogether a most successful fund-raiser thanks to a hard working committee and helpers.
