Maestro 3 - Timeless Brilliance

Adelaide Youth Orchestra at Tatachilla

September 2018

It was another artistic success for STARS, with the sponsorship of the AdYO for a Sunday afternoon concert at the Tatachilla College hall.

The program, conducted by the orchestra's founder and mentor Keith Crellin OAM, ran as follows:

Dvorak                           Carnival Overture Op. 92

Carl Maria von Weber   Concerto for bassoon in F major Op. 75 - guest bassoon Christopher Buckley

INTERVAL

Tchaikovsky              Symphony No. 5 in E Minor Op.64

The audience numbered about a hundred, not as many as we had hoped for possibly because of an impression that a youth orchestra may not be all that impressive.

Nothing could be further from the truth. This group of sixty young people, of average age 15, played superbly. Not one violin even slightly out of tune, not one missed beat. And the music was far from simple. Mr. Crellin conducted them with passion and when addressing the audience spoke of their lifelong love and passion for music and what a blessing and a joy it can be for all of us.
