The ASO Concert
Saturday October 3 2015
Tatachilla College Hall

'A Sparkling Symphony in the Vale' featuring The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra was the result of quite a few years preparation for the committee and included the assistance of previous STARS member Elizabeth Boydell  who collated information for our submission to the Onkaparinga Council to present a community concert a couple of years earlier.  There was a huge amount of work for herself and others and ultimately it became too difficult to apply for a grant so we cancelled the visit.

Late last year I approached the ASO and they gave us the one date that was available for the whole of 2015 and that was October 3.  We decided to proceed with the concert and hope that we would indeed be successful in getting the large audience to pay for the cost. The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra were very happy with our meetings and we finally signed a contract that quoted an affordable price.  It transpires that ASO were assisted by their sponsor Santos to offer us a concert at a reasonable cost.

Then Tatachilla Lutheran College were able to offer us the space and use of their lighting, staging and expertise free of charge.   Without this assistance, we were looking at more funds.

Our small sub committee commenced the advertising programme and with the assistance of Hugh Hamilton Wines and their websites as well as good friends who linked our concert with their social media we were well covered both in the city and the Fleurieu.

Everyone worked together to ensure that the event was going to be memorable, professional and successful.

The soloist Lucinda Moon, conductor Luke Dollman and Host Julie Howard combined to present a magical concert to a large audience that surpassed all expectations.

The 50 piece orchestra consisting of lovely young people gathered in the afternoon ready for the practice and Greg John was able to bring some music students and their families to watch the rehearsal.   Then it was time to feed the orchestra and helpers.   Chinois catering with Rachel and Wendy were a most professional pair who quietly and graciously prepared the best smorgasbord that they had seen (better than the Barossa) and gave big thankyou to us all.   The VIP food was outstanding and any left over was shared by the helpers at the end.

There have been some wonderful letters of thanks, phone calls and messages and the hard work has been worth the efforts of all involved.   Thanks have been given to everyone who made the concert a success.

The future for STARS will include another concert planned for 2017 – the season is already booked for 2016.

Thank you for coming.
