Our 2015 program launch was a rousing success, with probably the largest audience we have had for this annual event.

Catriona Barr, owner of Top Note Winery and a mezzo soprano of international renown, star of 'Making Mozart - the da Ponte Project', was the fabulous MC.   Her knowledge of the music, connection with Co-opera and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra made her the ideal person.

After a wonderful introduction from Brian Chatterton of Co-opera, the first singer was exciting talent Grace Bawden, a former winner of Australia's Got Talent  and now a soprano with Co-opera and soon to be performing for STARS in The Magic Flute – she sang a piece from that opera and then two jazz pieces including 'Summertime'.

Daniela Leska, accompanied by marvellous pianist Mark Sandon, next performed for us. Daniela won our Stars of Waverley award in 2011, used the money to travel to Perth and train at WAPA and returned home full of energy and confidence.

Daniela has a captivating presence and amazing soprano voice and her selection of Lieder, difficult and dark, was outstanding. A lighter Rossini was energetic and explosive and the crowd wanted more. So she obliged, with an encore of a mad Julie Andrews number 'Sending me Flowers'.

See below, at the bottom of the picture gallery, for a letter of thanks from Daniela.

Vince Ciccarello, Managing Director of Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, outlined his plans for the October 3 performance at Tatachilla Stadium, which will be called 'Sparkling Symphony'. The conductor will be local resident Luke Dolman.  Vince was charming and explained how important it is for the ASO to come down to our area and engage with the community.

He officially launched the programme, following which flowers and wine were presented by the committee.

Carolyn thanked everyone, especially Brian Reader for printing the photos in the gallery, and also the committee for their assistance.

Dear Carolyn and the STARS community,

Thank you very much for once again inviting me to perform for the STARS community. It was so lovely to see everyone again at the beautiful Waverley Homestead and I am ever so grateful for the support (both financially and personally) that STARS has so generously offered me over the past three years. It is so rewarding to work on and then enjoy performing this repertoire; to have developed and gained 'rungs up on this career ladder' and then to receive such positive feedback. STARS is such a special and powerful organisation within the arts community; facilitating crucial growth on the journey to achieving artistic goals.

Sincere thanks for the beautiful flowers; I have attached a picture of them! I hope you also enjoyed Sunday and I look forward to working with Mark and performing for the STARS community once again in the future.

Warm wishes,
